When did I start incorporating lavender and rosemary essential oils into my daily life? It must have been about two years ago. Both scents have been familiar to me for a long time, yet I still haven’t fully felt their effects.
At night, before going to bed, I add a few drops of true lavender essential oil to a diffuser and slowly inhale the fragrance as it fills the room. The components linalool and linalyl acetate are said to promote relaxation, but so far, I haven’t noticed any dramatic changes, and my trouble falling asleep persists. However, I’ve heard that lavender helps with serotonin secretion, which then converts into melatonin, naturally inducing sleep. So, I continue the practice, hoping that over time, my mind and body will gradually become accustomed to the scent and that its effects will start to manifest without me even realizing it.
On the other hand, in the morning, I use rosemary essential oil. My mind is foggy upon waking, and it’s said that inhaling rosemary deeply from a tissue helps clear the head. To be honest, I haven’t noticed a significant difference yet. Still, research suggests that 1,8-cineole, a compound in rosemary, improves blood circulation in the brain and enhances memory and concentration. So, I believe that incorporating it into my routine has value. If it truly works, it could create a positive cycle—waking up refreshed, being productive during the day, and naturally feeling sleepy at night.
For now, both lavender and rosemary remain more of an enjoyable sensory experience rather than a noticeable transformation. But perhaps the benefits of scents aren’t about immediate effects; rather, they slowly take root through continuous use. Instead of rushing for results, I want to embrace them at my own pace, finding the best way to incorporate them into my life.
